Presentations Community Awareness Presentations Available through the Peel Regional Police Crime Prevention Services Presentation times range from 25 minutes to 2 hours depending on the subject. Presentations are available to groups of 20 or more and can be tailored to meet the need of specific groups. There are no associated costs or fees for this service. Safety For women This lecture covers safety issues in the home/office environment. It includes a discussion on street and care safety tips stressing how to reduce the odds of becoming a victim. Sexual Assault/Date Rape This topic deals with statistics, crime trends and victim vulnerability. It can be combined with the Safety For Women presentation to illustrate how to reduce the potential for criminal assault. Spousal Abuse This lecture is intended for the general public, health care and social workers. Topics covered include: causes of domestic violence, spousal assault, psychological and emotional abuse, how police respond to domestic incidents, what actions should be taken to deal with domestic situations and what help, both short and long term, is available to victims. Streetproofing Your Children This topical subject explores threats faced by children in today's fast paced society and discusses how to help your child reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Safety For seniors This lecture concentrates on issues of personal safety, fraud and home security. Easy-to- take measures are recommended that will help seniors feel confident while maintaining an active lifestyle. Elder Abuse This presentation is targeted to caregivers of the elderly, including friends/family, health care and social workers. Issues of elder abuse and some of the causes and effects are explored. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design This topic illustrates how business, schools, etc. can reduce the fear and incidence of crime through the proper design and effective use of the built environment. Crime Prevention Through Physical Design (Home/Business Security) This presentation addresses exterior and interior home/business security and provides many valuable tips for making your home or business safe. Shoptheft This presentation will help you recognize shoplifters, decrease criminal opportunity and reduce internal theft. Crime Prevention through environmental design techniques will be discussed, if required to help you achieve these objectives. Fraud/Counterfeit Discussion on this topic includes current fraud trends, prevention and recognition measures and identification of counterfeit money. Robbery Prevention This lecture will discuss ways of reducing the risk of robbery as well as what action might be contemplated by employees and management during and after a robbery.
