For Immediate Release
Thursday May 8, 2003
Brampton, Ontario – Brampton Safe City and Rogers Television are proud to announce the launch of Youth Safety Television, (YSTV). This innovative new program will recruit 15 Brampton youth to train them in television production and community safety education. YSTV participants will produce a series of youth safety Public Service Announcements to be aired on Rogers Television, Dufferin-Peel in the fall of 2003. YSTV will also encourage local youth to highlight their own stories and issues on YSTV by submitting story requests through a soon to be created YSTV Web page on the Brampton Safe City Association’s Web site. These stories will be produced by the Youth Safety Television crew, with assistance from Rogers Television, and will appear on Rogers news programs over the coming year.
YSTV is one of several newly funded projects through the Federal government’s National Crime Prevention Strategy. “We are extremely excited about the potential of this innovative project to educate youth and put the spotlight on the issues affecting their safety and sense of well being. The opportunity to work with Rogers Television and the expertise that they bring to this project is a terrific example of the potential that a community holds to creatively address local needs when we work together.” –
