Meet Your Neighbours and Make Your Neighbourhood Safer!

Brampton, Ontario – On Tuesday June 15th, Neighbours from throughout the Greater Toronto Area will be encouraged to, once again, get out and meet each other for the purpose of building community spirit and creating safer more involved neighbourhood’s.  2004 marks Brampton’s second annual Neighbours Night Out event. Last year, more than 500 residents organized everything from barbecues to lawn parties, which led to the formation of nearly a dozen Neighbourhood Watch programs.

“The key to a successful Neighbours Night Out Event isn’t to organize a big and complicated event.  It’s about, introducing yourself to your immediate neighbours.  Once you’ve introduced yourself, share your phone numbers and agree to look out for each other’s homes. If you see anything out of the ordinary or suspicious, report it to Peel Regional Police.  Knowing your neighbours and agreeing to look out for each other is really the first step to starting a Neighbourhood Watch program in your area.  But more importantly, it’s about ‘planting the seed’ that makes your neighbourhood a more caring, involved and safer place. We’re proud this year to have Mayor Fennell and our great partners at Peel Regional Police lending their support to this terrific initiative” (Paul Damaso, Executive Director Brampton Safe City Association)

Neighbours Night Out Brampton is organized by Safe City’s Neighbourhood Watch program, in collaboration with Peel Regional Police and this year’s honourary chair, Mayor Susan Fennell.  To register your event and pick up a free Neighbours Night Out Event Organizing Kit (with activity ideas, invitations, stickers, “know your neighbour cards” and party streamers) you can visit any of Brampton’s Community Policing Stations, Brampton City Hall (the main floor information desk), or the Brampton Safe City Office at 150 Central Park Drive, Suite 019.
