Brampton Safe City and the Guardian Seek Nominees For This Year’s Community Safety Hero Award

Brampton, Ontario – It ‘s time again to name Brampton’s Community Safety Hero of the Year. The Safe City Association and the Brampton Guardian created the Community Safety Hero of the Year Award in 2003, to recognize special individuals who give back to our community in a way that helps us all to enjoy a safer and better city. The award winner will be selected from public nominations of regular—but extraordinary citizens who are identified for doing something significant that made our city a safer and better place to live this past year. Nominees do not have to have done something that is considered heroic in the traditional sense, (i.e. pulling someone from a fire, or a drowning child from a lake). Their heroic act may have simply been an act of kindness or a spirit of community leadership that led to a safer and more positive neighbourhood or community. The individual must be a regular citizen - emergency services or police personnel are not eligible. Last year’s winner, Shereen Woodworth, was recognized for her efforts in creating Sk8bike – a group that promotes the construction of safe facilities and the use of safety gear for skateboarders and BMX bike riders in Brampton.
