Looking For A Hero
Community Safe Hero Awards - November 10, 2005
Brampton, Ontario – Do you know someone who has made our lives a little safer in the City of Brampton ? ... a local hero who deserves to be recognized for his or her actions in keeping other people safe from crime or injury?
The Brampton Guardian and Brampton Safe City Association are teaming up to find and present an award to a Community Safety Hero of the Year. We are asking citizens to tell us about people they know who deserve to be recognized for their actions in making Brampton a safer place.
The Community Safety Hero of the Year is selected annually from nominations received by the general public in Brampton. The award is presented to an individual who made a significant contribution in 2005 that ensured the safety of other people in the City of Brampton.
The eligibility criteria for this award is as follows:
- The award nominee may not be a law enforcement or emergency services employee.
- The individual must be one of the following: a resident of Brampton, a business owner in Brampton , or an employee of a Brampton-based business, school or community organization.
- The Award Winner will be selected based on the following considerations:
- Did the act of the nominee almost certainly prevent someone else from suffering serious harm?
- Did the effort of the nominee result in a significant change to a safety problem or situation?
- Has the leadership or actions of the individual contributed to making people safer in Brampton ?
- If the nominee had not contributed the effort he or she did, would an unfavourable or unsafe situation have occurred or remained?
- Award nominations must be submitted by Thursday, October 27.
This special award will be presented to the winner at the Association’s Local Heroes Awards Gala on the evening of Thursday, November 10.
In addition to the Community Safety Hero of the Year award, Safe City will be recognizing a number of volunteers and local businesses for their contributions toward crime prevention and safety. Also, a special tribute will be made to retiring Peel Regional Police Chief Noel Catney that evening.
