Reporting Emergencies Versus Incidents

EMERGENCY situations are often dangerous, arise suddenly, and call for prompt action. 9-1-1 should be called in all emergency situations.

When you call 9-1-1, you may be asked to repeat the information. This is to ensure that the information received is correct and to determine the amount of emergency equipment needed. At the same time you are relaying the information, equipment is being dispatched to the scene.

INCIDENTS are of secondary importance and usually a limited occurrence of trouble. An incident may have happened while you were away from your home, and no life-threatening situation exists. Incidents should be reported to Peel Regional Police using the regular police phone number 905-453-3311.

When incidents in our neighbourhoods are reported, the police have better knowledge about our neighbourhood, and where to assign resources and special units.
