Neighbourhood Watch is a community based crime prevention program aimed at reducing and preventing crime in our neighbourhoods.
It is part of a safe and secure life style. It is a part of your everyday life. Something you may already do without realizing it. It is a way to interact with your neighbours and the community in general to help keep Brampton a safe and healthy place to live.
It is not possible for the police to know every house, street and neighbourhood like the people who live there. Police officers may not recognize who belongs on a particular street, or in a yard, or whether there is a strange car on the street.
By acting as the “Eyes and Ears” of the police-- and reporting the unusual-- we can strengthen policing and help reduce crimes from occurring.
Getting involved in your Neighbourhood
Getting involved in Neighbourhood Watch and helping to make Brampton a safe community can be as simple as watching out for your neighbours, or becoming a Neighbourhood Watch Captain, or by volunteering to assist with other community safety programs.
Making a Commitment
By committing a small amount of time as part of your lifestyle you can make a difference in your neighbourhood.
It is as easy as being aware of the normal activities in your area, being alert to situations that do not seem right and being active by reporting the unusual to the police, and assisting where possible with Safe City activities and programs.
Getting to know your Neighbours
Knowing your neighbours is an integral part of Neighbourhood Watch. When you are aware of their routines and activities, such as going on vacation, you are better able to spot what does not seem correct.
A Willingness to Watch (Be Aware, Be Alert, and Be Active)
It is a simple as being aware of the normal activities in your area, being alert to situations that do not seem right and being active by reporting the unusual and assisting where possible with Safe City activities and programs.
Neighbourhood Watch is Effective and Worthwhile
Provides a sense of security for individuals or families who are away from their homes
Gives the community a vehicle in which to improve the quality of life in their neighbourhood
Street signs let potential criminals know that Brampton residents care about the well being of their fellow citizens
Window stickers let criminals know that the residents in that home do not tolerate criminal activity
