Youth Safety
The Youth Education and Safety
Program (YES) promotes crime prevention and safety
with youth in the City of Brampton. The program provides
youth aged 14 to 19 years of age with opportunities to
volunteer with community safety organizations across
Brampton. Youth 14 to 19 years of age commit to a minimum 40
hours of volunteer service and receive training in promoting
safety and crime prevention with their peers. The program is
operated in partnership with the Brampton Multicultural
Community Centre and the Canadians for Safe and Sober
Driving. To find out more about this program and how you can
get involved, contact Sophia Graham our Youth Programs
Coordinator at (905) 793-5484 or by e-mail at
sophia.graham@city.brampton.on.ca.
The Youth Safety Television (YSTV)
is a collaborative partnership project of the Brampton Safe
City Association, Rogers Television (Dufferin-Peel), and Peel
Regional Police, coordinated with funding from the National
Crime Prevention Centre. This 12-month youth skills development and
public education project aims to increase skills and knowledge
in community safety, leadership, communication,
conflict-resolution and television production for youth aged
13 to 20 years old. At the same time the project educates and
increases awareness of safety issues in Peel Region youth by
developing and broadcasting Public Service Announcements and
news items for Rogers Community Television Programs. The Youth
Safety Television Team is available to cover your youth safety
oriented event. They can also highlight your thoughts on
youth safety issues if you’re 13 to 20 years old. If your
story is highlighted, it will air on Rogers Television’s
nightly news program, First Local. For more
information on this innovative project, contact Sophia Graham
our Youth Programs Coordinator at (905) 793-5484 or by e-mail
at
sophia.graham@city.brampton.on.ca.
